Westering
2009 - 2010
A cross-country journey performed within Google Street View. The image was constructed by removing all information except the computer-generated, interpolated movement between the camera’s current location and a point on the horizon. The route maps the mythological westward journey that has become part of the American vernacular. Gesturing toward the use of the cinematic image as a surrogate for travel, Westering offers a paradoxical experience of geographic conquest through an empty landscape.
