Like a Flower on a Mirror
2022 - ongoing
This series draws on a historical and linguistic connection between photography and painting found in Korean art history. Light-sensitive bioluminescent and fluorescent paints are combined with long-exposure techniques to produce paradoxical, hybrid images, in which the pigments themselves carry the trace of an underlying photographic image. By re-photographing different types of color calibration charts and spectral graphs, the work links the scientific language of light and photography to the expressive materiality of painting.
