Dying Breaths

2014 - 2015

Dying Breaths compares stark impressions of the remains of felled trees with transcriptions of breath as it crystalizes on the glass of a flatbed scanner. The photographs were made over two winters in a remote forest. In absolute darkness, the light expelled from the scanner preserved these traces of life and death in intricate detail before quickly falling off, out of focus, and into a sublime void of blackness.
