People I Did Not Meet in Brazil

In October, 2015, I went to Belo Horizonte, Brazil to attend a conference. As a lone traveler, not knowing the language in a city with little tourism, ordering a meal became a difficult experience. My wish was to happen upon a series of helpful strangers who might take me out to eat, in exchange for offering to buy their dinner. This book contains 10 photographs I Instagrammed while on the trip. Opposite each photograph is the selfie taken in closest proximity, as determined by searching timestamp and geotag metadata, to the location my picture was made. Although our paths crossed, I didn’t end up meeting any of these people. And I remained hungry in Belo Horizonte.
